With schwinn mountain bike your foot, remove the fork spacer at the dropouts. Lift the front of the bike and roll the wheel back. Ensure the brake disc goes into the caliper and the tabbed washers are on the outside of the dropouts, then lower the fork dropouts onto the axle.

Reinstall the spring, narrow end first, and the tabbed washer, tab facing in, and lightly tighten the adjusting nut.

Not all vintage Schwinns have serial numbers or follow a set convention for placement and numbering.
